Joe Crennen has been building and modifying bicycles for over 30 years. In 2012 Pedal Positive began building bicycle bookmobiles when he heard from a librarian friend, Zach, how Denver's Public Library was hosting a contest to boost their community outreach. We came together with the project in mind to build an prototype bicycle bookmobile. The design budget was tight so a method of "creative recycling" was used. The build began with an old newspaper bike, some scrap metal, and various salvaged working parts to create a wonderful contest winning bicycle bookmobile.
Since then Pedal Positive has refined the fabrication process. The models offered now are lighter, stronger, more adaptable, and offer options other manufacturers can't. Pedal Positive has sold bicycle bookmobiles throughout the United States and Canada. Joe still likes to incorporate repurposed and recycled materials when requested. Pedal Positive is not a factory but a bike shop and artists' studio. Each bookbike or pedal conveyance is handmade with care to the desires and needs of our client. "This is a dream come true! This is a pedal powered mobile library. We are breaking the confines of the physical library, we're taking it to the streets."
-Zac L. Denver Librarian
"It's a library on five wheels! Kids run up all excited and intrigued and ask, Is there ice cream in there? and we say Nope, something better! BOOKS!"
- Amy F. Bilingual Children's Librarian- Longmont Public Library
"Thank you for making our school fun. I tried all of your bikes except the ones I couldn't reach the pedals. I liked all of them!"
-Sarah A. Pedalpalooza Participant
"A real crowd pleaser! The bikes were in constant demand as young and old rode the bikes around and around and came back for more. Whether at a county fair, or a block party, or a street festival the Pedalpalooza was a hit. I met Joe the first time at Broomfield Days, then at the Moffett County Fair, then Broomfield Days again, then the Five Points Jazz Festival and he was busy at each event. The Pedalpalooza is an all ages, family friendly, FUN attraction."
-Bill Coleman Entertainment
"Bicycling is a big part of the future. It has to be. There's something wrong with a society that drives a car to work out in a gym."
-Bill Nye the Science Guy
